POLICE have revealed they will soon have more clues following the death of a man at Surfers Paradise last night.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was found with a significant head injury inside the Markwell Avenue home, but it is so far unclear how he sustained the fatal blow.

Ambulance officers made the grim discovery around 5.15pm yesterday.

Police have not disclosed who called the emergency team but confirmed an unidentified person was found inside.

Forensics teams have spent the day scouring the house for evidence, as officers continue to hunt for the man’s next of kin.

A police spokesman said no-one has been arrested in relation to the “suspicious” death.

Detectives expect to have more answers on Sunday, after a post mortem is carried out on the man’s body.

In the meantime officers have cordoned off around the area, which is located directly across the road from the Wyndham Hotel.

An old fridge adorns the overgrown front yard of the large brick home.

The wide-set home is one of the few left in the area, surrounded by large unit blocks, and had been slated to be knocked down to make way for the 103-storey Orion Towers.

Police spent the night guarding the property as the investigation got underway, with officials confirming the death is now being treated as suspicious.

Last night police searched a unit block located beside the home.

Detective Acting Inspector Matt Ward said police were now asking anyone with information to come forward.

“We’re asking anyone connected to the address or having knowledge of the circumstances leading to the death of this unidentified person at 34 Markwell Avenue,” he said.

He could not confirm whether there had been previous incidents at the same address.

“I haven’t gone into too much detail of that yet, the main thing is to try and find out who we’re dealing with first,” he said.

A neighbour, who declined to be named, said there had been problems in the house for months.

“You’ve never heard such violence, such screaming,” he said.

“It’s been a house of horrors for months. I’ve been waiting for something like this to happen.”

He said he had heard yelling earlier in the day as well.

This is the second violent incident to occur on the street in less than a year.

In July 2018 a woman was found stabbed on the footpath and rushed to hospital.
