A Darling Downs man has been charged with dangerous driving causing death while intoxicated following a tragic Warrego Highway crash which killed two people and left a devastated community in mourning earlier this year.
The Forensic Crash Unit have charged a 49-year-old Miles man with multiple offences following an investigation into the tragic crash near Drillham.
Police responded to reports of a traffic crash on Warrego Highway, around 6.20am on Thursday, April 18.
Police will allege a black 2010 Holden Colorado was travelling along the highway when it veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with a white 2013 Holden Colorado.
A passenger of the white Holden Colorado, a 25-year-old Chinchilla man Jack Holt, died at the scene.
Mr Holt has been remembered as a fun-loving larrikin who had a nickname for everyone and brought a smile to the faces of his close mates whenever they met.
These sentiments were shared by his mates in a loving tribute after the 25-year-old tragically lost his life.
The driver of the white Holden Colorado, a 23-year-old Chinchilla man, suffered serious injuries.
A passenger in the black Holden Colorado, a 41-year-old Miles woman Kellie Holland, also died at the scene.
Ms Holland’s friends and family were left heartbroken after the crash and a GoFundMe campaign was launched to help her parents bring their daughter’s body back to Miles for a funeral.
The driver of the black Holden Colorado, a 49-year-old Miles man and his passenger, a 33-year-old Chinchilla man, both suffered serious injuries.
On Friday, July 19, the alleged driver of the black Colorado, the 49-year-old Miles man, was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driving under the influence, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle, driving without a driver’s licence (suspended) and driving a defective vehicle.
He is scheduled to appear in the Chinchilla Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 22.
