Three months on from his death the Chinchilla community continues to remember beloved local business owner Jack Holt.

The 25-year-old tragically died in a multi-vehicle crash on the Warrego Highway in April 2024.

Mr Holt was the passenger in a white 2013 Holden Colorado ute that was involved in a crash with a black 2010 Holden Colorado at about 6.20am on April 18.

Police will allege a black 2010 Holden Colorado was travelling along the highway when it veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with a white 2013 Holden Colorado.

The alleged driver of the black Colorado, a 49-year-old Miles man, has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driving under the influence, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle, driving without a driver’s licence (suspended) and driving a defective vehicle and is due to appear in Chinchilla Magistrates Court on August 22.

Earlier this year in May hundreds turned out to pay tribute to the beloved businessman at the Chinchilla Rodeo with a $4000 memorial bull ride held in his honour.

Jack’s mother Bec said the community had been amazing in their support and she recently received his framed chaps, bull rope, gloves and memorial buckle to be hung in her home.

“Ann and Tyler Cross from AB Images framed Jack’s chaps, the community donated the glass and the frame and she donated her time which was really special,” she said.

“During the rodeo they took his chaps around the arena and held a minute’s silence in his memory.

“That’s the pride you want to feel as a mother, you just want your children to turn out as good decent humans and it’s a real feeling of pride knowing he treated everyone with kindness and was so loved by the community.

“It's not just the community from Chinchilla who remember him fondly, I run into people from Central Queensland where he built yards and they just said his skill was beyond his years but more importantly they said how lovely he was, that’s what gives me a real feeling of pride.”

Jack's friends previously told the Dalby Herald they had been rocked by his passing.

“Jack was a loveable larrikin, he was funny, genuine, kind, and always having a laugh about something,” close friend Emma Fitch said.

“He had a nickname for everyone and was a typical country bloke who loved to have a laugh and keep people entertained.

“Jack had such an impact on so many people and I hope he is up there in heaven and he knows it.”

Lachlan Bartly had described him as “the greatest man that ever took breath”.

“Fly high brother and hope you are building those yards up there to muster those big cheeky bulls in,” he said.

Meanwhile Karla Cann described him as “one in a million”.

“Your daily Snapchats, contagious smile and cheeky comments, always being there when I needed someone to talk to or a shoulder to cry on.”

Ms Holt she would always remember her son as “a fun loving cheeky person who just loved life and lived it to the max, he lived every moment”.

“I’d say to him, have a good day, have fun and work and he would say ‘I always do’,” she said.

“That was his attitude to life, live it to the max and that's how I remember him as a cheeky little bugger but always so polite and just a beautiful person.

“For 25 he packed a lot of life and he was a good kid.”
