The 111th Chinchilla show has had a roaring opening morning with 1400 through the gates and more than triple that expected by the evening.

The show features the return of the ever-popular Grand Parade displaying machinery, vehicles, horses and cattle along with the most show rides in ten years.

Treasurer Lisa Walsh said numbers were at a high and encouraged people to get down and see what was on offer.

“It's been very good, we have lots of people in already, we will be up on numbers by a fair bit from the last couple of years, we are really happy,” she said.

“The rodeo (Saturday) has the most nominations of anywhere in Queensland for the last couple of years so it is massive, we are expecting a big crowd for that.

“We have the show jumping Friday afternoon and tonight we have the V8 utes and the fireworks and the bar will be open to 10pm.

“On Saturday we have the horse ring events and then the rodeo starts at 2pm.”

Ms Walsh said the Chinchilla Show had historical importance to the region.

“To me it is a great place for everyone in the community, it doesn't matter if you’re a farmer, whether you just moved here, or someone who does sewing or cooking there is something for everyone to look at,” she said.

“The pavilion is just massive and everyone can come in have a chat and a walk around, it is really great.

“The shows around this region are typically around their 100th year and some are up to 150th, some people say they’ve had their day but the people I talk to all of their shows are going from strength to strength.

“We have an amazing team here, people don't realise the time and effort goes into these shows, we have an amazing group of volunteers.”

Friday’s show will finish late tonight and doors open again at 7am Saturday morning.
