A Gayndah nurse suffered a head injury after getting behind the wheel drunk and crashing, with her own father finding her crawling from her smashed-up car.

Shania Rose Roth lost control of her car on Gayndah-Mundubbera Rd at Mt Debateable, with a magistrate describing the moment her dad found her injured among the wreck as “just terrifying”

Roth appeared in Gayndah Magistrates court and pleaded guilty to one charge of driving under the influence of liquor over the August 21 crash.

Police told the court Roth failed to negotiate the bend at 12.35am, causing her car to leave the road and roll.

She suffered a head injury as a result of the crash and was flown to Bundaberg Hospital.

Roth was represented by lawyer Leanne McIntosh, who told the court her client had gone for Friday night drinks with her sister and friends.

Roth was supposed to be the driver on the night but drank too much, which resulted in her sister phoning their father to come pick them up as she was concerned Roth wanted to drive home.

Despite her father making the journey to collect his daughters, Roth got behind the wheel as she “didn’t want to bother her father”.

Roth’s father came across the shocking scene of the crash, and police told the court he witnessed his daughter crawling from the wreckage.

Magistrate Kurt Fowler reflected on the horrific ordeal the woman’s father faced.

“I wouldn’t have thought there’d be too many more terrifying experiences in life than driving on a country road at night and seeing your own child’s car on the side of the road,” Mr Fowler said.

“There’s probably not a great deal more that needs to be said about that – I suspect it’s already been said.”

Ms McIntosh said Roth was remorseful and conscious of the impact the crash had on her family.

Mr Fowler acknowledged Roth’s offending was “unequivocally out of character”.

“I’m not going to repeat the things you’ve no doubt been told by your friends, your family, your employer – what you need to do is … stop and have a think about what caused you to make the decision in the first place,” he said.

Roth was fined $900 and disqualified from driving for eight months.
