Man suffers fractured skull, bleeding on brain after one-punch attack outside Gayndah hotel

A man's unconscious body was pulled from the road by bystanders after he was the victim of a one-punch attack outside a Gayndah pub.

One-punch attacks: How lethal are they?

Suffering from severe head and brain injuries, a North Burnett man’s unconscious body was dragged off a Gayndah road and onto a footpath out the front of a pub by horrified bystanders after a vicious one-punch attack.

The victim, aged in his 40s, suffered a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain, and a black eye during the attack on the corner of Bridge and Meson Streets outside the Burnett Hotel in Gayndah about 10.30pm on Saturday, May 24, according to a Queensland Police spokeswoman.

Paramedics transported the man to Gayndah Hospital before an RACQ LifeFlight helicopter airlifted him to Bundaberg Hospital.

Gayndah officer-in-charge Sergeant Don Auld said the devastating injuries were caused during an “alcohol-fuelled” brawl.

“That why we have a one punch can kill policy,” Sergeant Auld said.

“I can’t tell you what a single hit it’s going to result in. It might be nothing, it might be death.

“Walk away, cool down. Whatever slurs have been made against you, it’s not worth a court date or leaving someone fighting for their life.”

News Corp understands the man fell onto the road before bystanders pulled him onto the footpath.

It is understood Maryborough Crime Investigation Branch detectives are investigating the incident.

No charges have been laid at this point.
