Two students from Monto State High School and one from Mundubbera State College have been awarded with the prestigious Harding Miller Education Foundation Scholarships to help support them with their academic pursuits.

Monto’s Olivia Morris and Dana Grubb and Mundubbera’s Jessie Evans – all in year 9 – were among the 60 young women from across Queensland to receive $20,000 worth of assistance, to help them overcome obstacles over the next four years such as computer, textbook or tutoring costs.

With aspirations to work in interior design and architecture, Ms Morris said the scholarship will support her in achieving her goals of attending university and attaining her dream career.

Ms Grubb said the scholarship provided equipment and opportunities she was unlikely to have otherwise.

Ms Evans expressed her gratitude and said the scholarship will provide her with better opportunities to support her education and to achieve her goals.

Harding Miller Foundation executive director Cara Varian said the 60 scholarship recipients were selected for their high academic potential.

“They are talented and dedicated, but they simply do not currently have access to the resources that they need to make the most of their education opportunities,” she said.

“Girls are more likely to complete high school and go on to pursue further education when they are supported with equipment, money for resources, tutoring and coaching, and that’s the type of support we are providing to these students.

“We want to support these high-potential young women to stay in school and to have the option going to university.”
