There were 20 confirmed cases of patients with Covid on Wednesday.

WBHHS chief executive Debbie Carroll said the requirement to wear masks was implemented to protect vulnerable patients in the hospital.

“We are being cautious due to an increase in Covid-19 numbers, and we’re increasing our safety measures to protect our most vulnerable patients.” Ms Carroll said.

“We saw how effective mask-wearing was in reducing the spread of Covid-19 over the Easter break, and we hope to see a similar trend in coming weeks.

“Respiratory illnesses such as colds, influenza and Covid-19 are always more common at this time of year and we encourage people to keep their immunisations up to date, be responsible with hand-hygiene and mask wearing, and stay home if they are unwell.”

A WBHHS spokesperson said that the health service will advise the public of any further change to visitor requirements if they occur.
