Dylan Devitt is a BMX daredevil and has qualified to compete at the Nitro World Games.

Devitt, 19, qualified for the 2021 competition but suffered injuries while qualifying.

Devitt said he had only been riding on the mega ramp for two weeks prior to attempting a triple flip.

“I had only learnt double flips the week before so I got carried away and tried a triple, I fell and was knocked out after landing on my face,” he said.

“Last year was rough, I had so many broken bones.”

Luckily for Devitt, the competition was postponed to October 2022 due to Covid regulations.

This year he has qualified to join the competition and ride alongside professionals from all over the world.

The Kingaroy boy was bought his first bike in year 7.

“I started riding to school and we passed a skate park, it took me a month to go on the ramp but after that I fell in love with it,” he said.

He left Kingaroy State High School in year 12 to move to Brisbane and pursue his dreams.

He began sharing his training and every day life on social media, his Instagram account boasts more than 4000 followers.

“I’ve always enjoyed documenting what I get up to, it will be cool to look back on with my kids one day,” he said.

“I film everything to get my name out there, so many opportunities have come from Instagram.”

He has been mentored by BMX and scooter legend Ryan Williams and Gold Coast motocross stunt rider Pat Bowden.

He contacted Williams via Instagram in 2021 and was later invited to film a YouTube video with him.

Bowden invited Devitt to Sydney for a week to film videos and learn from the best.

Devitt said his success wouldn’t be possible without the support and guidance of Williams and Bowden.

Bowden said Dylan is an awesome kid with lots of natural talent.

“He has a lot of good to offer the world, I see unlimited potential for him to do great things in BMX or whatever he wants to do,” he said.

The Games will be held at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday and Sunday October 22 and 23.
