A 44-year-old man will face court after allegedly hitting a 13-year-old boy with his car on the first day of school in Bundaberg, then fleeing from the scene.

A 44-year-old man will face court after allegedly hitting a 13-year-old boy with his car on the first day of school in Bundaberg, before fleeing from the scene.
Initial reports indicated a boy was rushed to Bundaberg Hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries in Bundaberg North on Tuesday, January 28.
The 13-year-old was struck on Jefferis St in Bundaberg North about 4.20pm that day.
He was helping his older brother start their car when a yellow van allegedly struck him, pinning the boy between the two vehicles.
“I was outside the car pushing it,” the teen’s 17-year-old brother said.
“My brother was steering for me.”
Police will allege while the 13-year old boy was exiting the car, a van reversed out of a driveway at speed, crushing the boy between the two vehicles.
The driver of the van, an alleged Urangan man, left the scene, his belongings were allegedly scattered across the road.
The 17-year old brother watched it all unfold said “it was terrible to witness.”
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said at the time the child was treated for serious facial and pelvic injuries at the scene before being transported to Bundaberg Hospital for further treatment.
The 13-year-old has since been released from hospital.
“He’s going good; just has a black eye now,” his brother said
The 44-year-old Urangan man has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle as well as failing to remain at the scene and provide help.
He is set to face Hervey Bay Magistrates court on February 13, 2025.
