White China at Brothers Sports Club has been voted Bundaberg’s best Asian takeaway place of 2024 by News Mail readers, winning 19 per cent of the vote.
Coming in second this year is Sang’s Asian Fusion, with 15 per cent of the vote, and in third was Red Chilli Thai Bargara, with 14 per cent of the vote.
With a rotating roster of 21 staff, and a swag of awards under their belts, business owners Peter and Mary Ho have been running White China for 14 years and could not be happier, calling Australia the best country in the world.
The Hos were born in Honk Kong and moved to Australia in 1973.
Mr Ho, 80, said this week he was surprised with the win.
“Thank you to the people of Bundaberg and the community at large, I know they always speak nice things about the food we deliver.”
“I speak with pride when I say this because many people have expressed how enjoyable and delicious our food tastes,” Mr Ho said.
“We treat people here not like customers, we treat them like our family and Bundaberg is our big family.”

Mr Ho said the business had won several food awards and commendations in the past.
“We have won awards in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014,” he said.
“We are not driven by or targeting the prizes, we always strive to serve good food to our customers.
“I’m an Aussie now because I’ve lived in Australia for 60 years. This country is the best country in the world.
“Bundaberg is laid back for most retired Australians; the weather is great and the sun is always shining with less traffic to drive around freely.
“We like to cook original fresh Chinese foods. We make rainbow steak, red curry, chicken curry and yellow curry with the various mixes of base and sources with sugar.
The Ho family lived in Sydney for a year after arriving in Australia, and moved to the Gold Coast where they began their catering businesses 50 years ago.
“We got exhausted of it in the big cities and when the Brothers Sports Club in Bundaberg offered us this place we thought it would be a nice small place to continue our love for cooking,” he said.
Peter and his wife have three children who are now aged in their early 50s and are all successful and living their lives.
“We travel back to Hong Kong twice a year to see our good friends, eat some traditional foods and get inspirations with some new dishes,” he said.
Congratulations to White China, and to all our favourite Asian takeaways nominated by their loyal customers.
