Bundaberg has voted for a clear winner in the 2023 Best Personal Trainer poll, with 22-year-old Adam Harford or Harford Health and Fitness taking out 41 per cent of the vote.

Adam has revealed the heartbreaking history behind his drive for health and fitness.

“Back in 2019, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, and battled through that for two and a half years of my life,” he said on Tuesday.

“Fitness got me through that.”

The young PT always had a passion for being active, including representing the country at a national level with basketball.

After making it to full remission, Adam realised he could use his experience and passion to help those who had similar journeys to his own.

“I really wanted to dive into helping others and everyone goes through different forms of life-altering or life-threatening things,” he said.

Adam now owns his own business and is a subcontractor with Growth Gyms Avoca, which he credits with greatly supporting him.

“Small things make me relatable to a lot of people, and I can use my experience to give people hope that fitness does actually provide a better life and a better chance at having a healthier lifestyle,” he said.

Adam said money was not his top priority and he preferred to be someone in the community people could come to for help, even if they never became a paying client.

“I just approach every single person with the idea that if they are asking for help, they need help,” he said.

“If I am able to impact their life with their health choices and lifestyle, I see that as more important than making a buck.”

The young trainer recalls the moment his own health care angel brought him back from the brink.

“At one point I was pretty close to saying ‘don’t give me any more medication, I am sick of all the pain and discomfort, I am ready to go now,’” he said.

“One of the nurses sat with me, talked to me, and gave me an insight into where my life could go.”

“I decided then and there I wasn’t going to let this part of my life control me.”
