A Queensland over 50s resort developer with projects up and down the coast has unveiled plans to expand into Bundaberg.
The Stockwell Development Group wants to open a new 403-home Solana Lifestyle Resort at Bargara on a 17ha wedge of land squeezed between Windermere Rd, Hughes Rd, Wearing Rd and Seaview Rd.
Solana Bargara Pty Ltd bought the eastern part of the block for $8.55 million in August, 2024, RP Data online records show.
The western side of the land has been owned by the Steendyk family since 2011.
The application includes their consent to the resort’s construction on their land.
The triangular-shaped development would have a community living centre, bowling green, and tennis court, swimming pools, gymnasium, theatre, library, dining room, and shared residential garden.
These would be exclusive to the centre’s residents.
End of an era as business run by same family for 54+ years closes
Each of the 403 units would be single storey with two bedrooms and garage.
The entire project, if approved, would be built in eight stages.
It would be the fifth resort in the Solana Lifestyle portfolio which includes centres at Bribie Island, Hervey Bay, Mackay, and Agnes Water.
Stockwell said in its application the resort would satisfy a need for housing diversity in the Bundaberg region by allowing homeowners to downsize amid an ongoing housing crisis.
The resort was ideal for the area given Bargara’s median age was 54, well above the state’s average of 38, Stockwell said in the application.
More than 55 per cent of Bargara’s population was over 50, compared to 34.5 per cent
