28 charged after alleged multimillion-dollar cannabis farms discovered in Bundaberg region

Dozens of people have been charged, including five “unlawful non-citizens”, in the wake of a series of raids at properties allegedly turned into multimillion-dollar marijuana farms.

Twenty-eight people have been charged by the State Drug Squad after three multimillion-dollar cannabis farms were uncovered following investigations under Operation Whiskey Alon in the North Coast and Central Regions.

Search warrants have been executed in December at properties at Deepwater, Moore Park Beach and Winfield which police will allege were being used as purpose-built cannabis farms.

The cannabis plantations consisted of a total of 28,127 cannabis pants.

A total of 25 people, including 5 unlawful non-citizens, were charged in relation to the three properties.

The latest raid at a property at Moore Park Beach near Bundaberg on December 17 resulted in the arrest of 12 men from Victoria.

Two 43-year-olds, a 44-year-old, 29-year-old, 39-year-old, 58-year-old, three 48-year-olds, two 42-year-olds, a 56-year-old and a 37-year-old, have been charged with one count each of producing dangerous drugs, and possessing dangerous drugs, and two counts of possessing anything used in commission of a crime.

All are due to reappear at Bundaberg Magistrates Court on February 24, 2025.

On December 19, detectives executed a search warrant at a Gailes address where about 600 kilograms of packaged cannabis, an unlawful firearm, money counter and about $40,000 in cash were seized.

Three people have been charged in relation to these items.

A 24-year-old Gailes man has been charged with possessing dangerous drugs, possessing items used in commission of a crime and possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under the Drugs Misuse Act.

A 42-year-old Gailes man has been charged with possession of dangerous drugs, producing dangerous drugs, 3 counts of possessing items used in commission of a crime and possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under the Drugs Misuse Act.

A 51-year-old Gailes man has been charged with possession of dangerous drugs, possessing items used in commission of a crime and possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under the Drugs Misuse Act.

The three men have been remanded in custody and are expected to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 19.
