Six drinks before driving leads to crash
A Bundaberg essential worker who suffered the death of a friend earlier in the day had consumed three beers and three bourbons in just under four hours before she crashed her car on a suburban Bundaberg street on November 29.
Kathleen Maisie Joy Fulwood told Bundaberg Magistrates Court she had “not been in a good frame of mind” during the incident.
“It’s not the person I am,” she said.
Police told the court that on the evening of the crash, Fulwood’s car was located in the gutter and ambulance officers attended, but fortunately, no one was hurt.
It was heard Fulwood’s blood alcohol reading of 0.135 was “very high” and was just under being listed as a high alcohol reading.
Fulwood pleaded guilty to one count of driving over the middle alcohol limit but not over the high alcohol limit.
She was fined $850 and disqualified from driving for nine months.
Burnouts burn a hole in teen’s pocket
An unlicensed teenager who was spotted by police highway patrol doing burnouts on Mahoney Dexters Rd at Alloway told Bundaberg Magistrates Court that he got “persuaded by the boys” to get a car and “wreck it”.
But police noticed the actions of Kyle Aaron Lee Morgan, 18, on November 12, and he was handed $920 worth of fines.
He found himself before the court because he had no licence at the time.
Magistrate Edwina Rowan told the teen the matter was “very, very serious”.
“You do need to understand that being egged on by your mates puts you and others at risk,” she said.
Morgan pleaded guilty to one charge of driving without ever having held a licence and was fined $450 and disqualified from driving for three months.
Motorcycle antics lead to hefty fines
A young man who drove an unregistered, uninsured motorcycle around Thabeban without a helmet soon caught the attention of police.
Bundaberg Magistrates Court heard Adrian Harry George Fuller had been seen driving past private property signs near the Glenlodge Caravan Park on October 19.
Officers sitting in a stopped and unmarked police car observed the rider’s actions from a distance, but claim Fuller went past them and looked at them while doing wheel stands.
Lawyer Gavin James told the court his 19-year-old client had “conducted himself with a high level of immaturity”.
Magistrate Edwina Rowan said Fuller’s actions put both himself and others at risk, and reminded him that motorcyclists who are involved in crashes often face catastrophic injuries and lifelong trauma.
“You should start taking this type of offending exceptionally seriously,” she said.
Fuller pleaded guilty to one count each of driving uninsured, driving without ever having held a licence, trespass and driving unregistered.
Fuller received a total of $1360 in fines and was disqualified from driving for three months.
