North Burnett police data reveals crime rates, offences by town

Two years of police statistics have been analysed to reveal which North Burnett towns have the highest crime rates. Find out what crimes are happening in your town.

Almost half of North Burnett’s crimes were committed in one town as analysis of police data reveals the most common crimes throughout the region.

Police data from December 2020 to 2022 showed there were 1006 crimes committed throughout the region.

Gayndah recorded the highest number of offences, taking in 42 per cent of all crimes committed.

Drug offences were the most common crime committed with 111 offences, accounting for 11 per cent of total crimes.

Across the region midnight was the most common time for any offence to be committed with almost 20 per cent of all crimes committed at witching hour.

Eidsvold

There were 79 offences committed in Eidsvold, with 22 of those occurring on a Saturday and 12 at midnight.

Assaults were the most common crimes, with 19 offences – 17 of which were within the township.

Traffic and related offences accounted for 11 offences, as did other theft (excluding unlawful entry).

Crimes spiked in July in 2021 and 2022 with 15 offences recorded during those months.

Gayndah

A town with a population of just 1981 people recorded the highest number of crimes in the North Burnett.

The data reveals there were 424 offences over the two years, with 85 of those between April and July 2022.

Midnight was again the most common time for a crime to occur, and 17 per cent of crimes were committed on a Friday.

Drug offences were the most common offences listed, with 86 recorded.

Other theft (excluding unlawful entry) was the second most common crime committed in the area, accounting for 70 of the offences.

Biggenden

Traffic offences accounted for 27 of the 139 crimes committed in the Biggenden locality over the past two years.

Assault came in second with 25 crimes, and six of those were committed within streets of Biggenden State School.

Monday was the most popular day for criminal activity accounting for almost 20 per cent of crimes.

The past 5 months has shown a 19 per cent rise in crimes with 30 recorded since July.

Monto

Monto recorded 220 criminal offences since December 2020, with a worrying 91 of those occurring within two streets of Monto State School and St Theresa Primary School.

Traffic offences accounted for 42 of the crimes committed in the two year period, and other theft (excluding unlawful entry) accounted for 36.

It had the highest number of break-ins across the North Burnett, with 31 unlawful entry crimes.

There was a spike in criminal activity in October, 2022.

Mount Perry

Mount Perry listed the second lowest crime rate per population with only 45 crimes committed in the past two years.

Nine of those were drug offences, eight were property damage and seven were recorded for theft.

March of 2022 saw a peak in criminal activity with 35 per cent of the crimes committed during this one month period.

Mundubbera

Almost 20 per cent of the crimes committed in the North Burnett were committed in Mundubbera, with Saturday at midnight the most popular time for criminal activity.

There has been a steep rise in crime recently with 19 offences in October, up from three in June.

Good order offences including threatening behaviour and public nuisance accounted for 38 of all offences from December 2020.

Traffic offences were the second most common with 35, and drug offences were also common with 32.
