A man and toddler have been taken to Gladstone Hospital after home in Golding St, Barney Point house was gutted by fire.

The man and boy suffered smoke inhalation and were in a stable condition, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.

Fire crews had the home under control as of 1.30pm but remained at the house on Thursday afternoon dampening the fire down.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said initially one person was unaccounted for, but they had since been found.

The QFD spokesman said they received the call at 12.53pm.

Smoke billowing into the air from the blaze could be seen from afar as the fire consumed the home.

One neighbour, who described the street as quiet, said there was a lot of smoke from the blaze.

“It looked pretty intense,” they said.
