Video has emerged of three vehicles caught on camera allegedly hooning on a popular regional Qld beach only hours before two serious crashes which left one man critical.

Hooning on Coonarr Beach

Police are seeking public assistance to identify three vehicles they say were involved in two serious crashes on Coonarr Beach, including the rollover on Friday, June 30 that left one man in a critical condition.

A compilation of multiple videos taken on Friday and over the weekend, provided to police by members of the public and released on Tuesday, shows the three vehicles performing burnouts on Coonarr Beach.

Police said the vehicles were involved in hooning related offences that allegedly resulted in two serious crashes and damage to the beach.

One of the crashes was the rollover at Kinkuna Beach on Friday evening, they said.

However none of the vehicles shown in the video is the black Ford Ranger ute involved in that incident.

Five people were hospitalised from the crash, including a 29 year-old man who was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with serious back injuries and later transferred to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

A Metro North Hospital and Health Service spokeswoman said on Monday the man remained in a critical condition.

Police said the vehicles in the video were linked to another single-vehicle crash at Coonarr Beach on July 1.

On this occasion the vehicle hit a gate pole after the driver lost control while travelling along the beach access track.

The three occupants of the vehicle were transferred to Bundaberg Hospital, where a 19 year-old Jubilee Pocket woman was treated for a suspected knee injury and whiplash and a 17 year-old Burpengary East girl was treated for a suspected broken nose.

The driver of the vehicle, an 18 year-old Kippa-Ring man, did not suffer any injuries or receive treatment.

Police have urged the public to drive within the limits of their ability when driving on beaches.

Local police are pleading with members of the public to drive to not just the conditions but also there ability.

“Traversing sandy terrain is not for inexperienced drivers,” Acting Senior Sergeant Matt Swan said.

“Police will continue to monitor driving behaviour on our local beaches and would like to remind motorists that police can be anywhere at anytime.”

Police are seeking information and dash-cam or camera footage of the vehicles shown in the video to assist in their investigations.
