Police are looking for a person who stole items from unlocked cars in the Bundaberg suburb of Branyan

They came, quite literally, like a thief in the night. Now police are hoping someone can identify this mysterious figure caught on CCTV.

It was a bit of a spree for a person who decided to enter unlocked cars in Branyan overnight on August 3, with five vehicles targeted.

These offences occurred to vehicles parked on Palmerston Drive, Polo Place and Diamantina Drive.

Items stolen from the vehicles included bank cards and a Nike baseball cap, with the offender appearing only as a mysterious white blur on CCTV. Police are hoping the image will be enough to jog someone’s memory.

Police are seeking assistance from residents in the area if they witnessed anything suspicious during that time to please contact Policelink.

Police said it was a timely reminder to all residents not to gift keys to thieves or leave vehicles unlocked.

To reduce the risk of vehicle theft or theft of your valuable property:

• Remove all valuables from the vehicle. If you must leave valuables in your vehicle, keep them out of sight.
• Make sure you lock all doors and windows, even when the vehicle is parked in your driveway or on your property. If you own a van, check that your sliding doors are locked.
• Don’t leave spare keys anywhere in the vehicle and keep garage door openers out of sight.
• Consider fitting a car alarm, immobiliser, ignition shield or other available security device.
• Park in a well lit area.
