Kody Raymond Gerald Collis pleads guilty to unlawful use, disqualified driving

A court has heard how a young Bundaberg dad borrowed his friend’s scooter and swapped it for drugs before being caught on a separate occasion driving to KFC on a disqualified licence.

The court heard Collis kept his mate’s scooter, swapping it for drugs.

A young Bundaberg dad found himself back behind bars after reoffending just two months after being placed on parole for other crimes.

Kody Raymond Gerald Collis, aged in his 20s, appeared in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday via videolink from custody.

Details of his offending were heard in court, including that on January 12 this year he had swapped his friend’s scooter for drugs.

Four days later, he was caught driving on Boat Harbour Drive, Hervey Bay, while on a disqualified licence.

The court heard Collis had been making his way to KFC, which magistrate John McInnes said was “certainly no emergency”.

Collis also failed to co-operate for a drug test as part of his parole, which was consequently suspended.

Collis’s parole had arisen from a previous sentence in Bundaberg Magistrates Court in November last year after he pleaded guilty to a number of offences including a serious assault.

The court heard the most serious offence was carried out on March 3, 2021, when Collis and other associates involved in the drug world met in a unit and had an argument which became physical.

Collis’s victim had suffered serious facial injuries, as well as pain to other parts of his body.

For his most recent offending, Collis pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a motor vehicle, for the scooter offence, and disqualified driving.

He was sentenced to four months’ jail and disqualified from driving for two years.
