A young Bundaberg dad will get out of jail just in time for Christmas after facing 19 charges in Bundaberg Magistrates Court.

The court heard the most serious offence was carried out on March 3, 2021, when Kody Raymond Gerald Collis and other associates involved in the drug world met in a unit and had an argument which became physical.

Hospital reports revealed Collis’s victim had suffered serious facial injuries, as well as pain to other parts of his body.

It was heard Collis had a relevant criminal record and that his offending was the result of the impact on drugs on his mental health.

A letter of apology by Collis, as well as a reference from his mother, were handed to the court.

The court also heard how Collis had stolen a phone and wallet and had trespassed into storage sheds at East Bundaberg while looking for items that could be sold for drug money.

Collis, who appeared in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on November 10, appeared via videolink from custody where pleaded guilty to charges including one count of unlawful assault while armed in company, one count of enter premises and commit indictable offence while armed in company, possession of a knife in a public place, one count of evasion, one count of failing to dispose of a syringe, one count of possessing pipes or utensils, one count of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of wilful damage, one count of wilful damage (domestic violence offence), two counts of driving without a licence (SPER suspended), one count of obstructing a police officer, one count of trespass, two counts of entering a premises with intent and one count of contravention of a court order.

Lawyer Gavin James said his client was hoping to seek work in the mines and told the court that the associates who were with each other at the time of the assault were known to each other through the “drug world”.

Collis was sentenced to 15 months’ jail for assault, 50 days’ jail for evasion, two months for each of his wilful damage offences and one month for stealing.

For his enter premises offences, Collis was sentenced to four months’ prison.

He was also disqualified from driving for two years for the evasion offence and disqualified from driving for one month for each count of driving without a licence.

For all other offences, he was convicted but not further punished.

Collis’s parole release date was set at December 23, 2022.
