The search for missing Bundaberg teenager Phoebe Bishop continued on Monday, with friends and family distributing posters, searching bushland and pleading for information.
Phoebe, 17, was last seen on Thursday morning, May 15, at Airport Drive in Bundaberg.
A police land search of Airport Drive and surrounding areas failed to turn up any of the 17-year-old’s personal items.
Phoebe was carrying luggage and wearing a green tank top and grey sweatpants on Thursday morning, but did not board a scheduled flight and has not been heard from since.
Kylie Johnson has been spearheading searches and awareness and said more than 400 missing person posters had been put up across Bundaberg, Bargara, Childers, Biggenden and surrounding areas. She said the outpouring of support from the community had been overwhelming, but fears for Phoebe’s safety continued to grow.
“My heart is breaking and so are those of her siblings, her family and our friends,” Ms Johnson wrote on social media.
“We are lost at what to do next.”
She said suggestions that Phoebe may have run away did not reflect the kind of person she is.
“If you knew Phoebe, you would know that she is free-spirited and loves hard.
“She is loyal to the core and cut throat.
“She would never leave her family without contact — especially this week,” she wrote, referring to anniversaries of the deaths of Phoebe’s best friend and family members.
Phoebe’s phone and social media accounts have been inactive since Thursday, and her bank account hasn’t been used since Wednesday — something Ms Johnson said was out of character for the teen.
“She spends money like water,” she said.
Volunteers have joined in searching riverbanks and bushland near the airport, with Ms Johnson thanking those who stepped in to help without being asked.
She also shared an emotional message directly to Phoebe, urging her to make contact.
“Phee Phee, I’m begging you, please contact someone… I just need to know you’re safe,” she wrote.
“I don’t need to know where you are or any details — I just need to know you’re okay.”
The girl is described as approximately 180cm, pale complexion, long dyed red hair, and hazel eyes.
Police are appealing for dashcam footage of the Airport Drive and Samuels Road area between 8.30am and 9.30am on May 15.
Family continue to hold serious concerns for Phoebe’s welfare who say her disappearance is out of character.
Anyone with information regarding the girl’s whereabouts is urged to contact police.
