Stolen council car crashes into suburban park

The normally quiet Bundaberg suburb of Kalkie was rocked by high drama when a stolen council vehicle rolled in a local park. See the photos and video.

Stolen council vehicle crashed in Bundaberg park

Bundaberg police and detectives scaled fences and searched for clues after a car thief fled the scene of a crash on Thursday afternoon.

Residents of a quiet Kalkie neighbourhood heard screeches and a powerful “bang” about 1.30pm before discovering a council work vehicle on its side down a gully in parklands off Kingsford St.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen and that the driver rolled it into a ditch before running away on foot.

Investigations are continuing.
