A Bundaberg man facing a string of disturbing charges has been told he needs to get his Legal Aid application moving along or he will face self-representing.

Appearing on Monday before the Bundaberg Magistrates Court, the man, who cannot be identified, was told he was facing serious charges and should move on his efforts to seek legal counsel.

The man’s matters had been set down for a committal mention in order to move them to a higher court, but it was heard he still hadn’t organised a legal representative.

Magistrate John McInnes, upon hearing the man had lodged his Legal Aid application on June 6 following a prior court mention, told him he needed to do what he could to comply with the process.

“Really, the application should have been put in earlier than that,” he said.

Mr McInnes told the defendant that the court “can’t wait forever”.

The man is facing a total of six charges.

He is charged with one count of administering a drug etc for purpose of a sexual act, one charge of aggravated supply of dangerous drugs to a minor 16 years or more, one count of observations or recordings in breach of privacy (domestic violence offence) and three counts of rape (domestic violence offence).

He will face court again on July 4.

The defendant remains on bail.
