Police call-outs to Bundaberg region schools

Police have handled 114 incidents in two years at schools across Bundaberg, Moore Park Beach, Gin Gin and Childers, new data shows, as the schools responsible for the most call-outs are revealed. See the shocking statistics:

More than 100 crimes have taken place on Bundaberg school grounds in the past two years, according to Queensland Police Service Data.

More than 25 assaults, 26 drug incidents and 37 property damage offences have allegedly occurred inside the gates of Bundaberg schools during that time.

Between August 11 and August 15, four schools in the Bundaberg region were broken into.

Bundaberg North State High School topped the class for police call-outs, with the highest number of alleged offences of all schools in the central Bundaberg district.

Crime data alleges 12 property damage offences, six assaults, eight drug offences, two unlawful entry, one trespass and one theft occurred at Bundy North.

Further up the coast, Moore Park Beach State School recorded three property damage and three unlawful entry offences.

Moore Park Beach was one of two schools targeted in March this year for break and enter and damage offences, the other being Bundaberg North High School.

Police received reports of one of the school canteens broken into through a roller door with fly screens dumped on the oval along with other property damage.

Another school reported a number of rooms has been broken into with a large amount of internal damage such as cupboard doors ripped off, smashed glassware and gas turned on.

Kepnock High School reported 14 assaults, three thefts and one trespass offences, as well as nine drug and two property damage offences.

Schools boasting high price tags such as Shalom Catholic College and St Luke’s Anglican School also made the list, but were at the tail end.

Shalom recorded one alleged drug offence, two unlawful entry, one assault, one fraud, one theft and one property damage offence in two years.

In comparison, St Luke’s recorded two thefts, one drug offence and one fraud.

Bundaberg Special School had the highest number of recorded assaults on its grounds among the state schools, with four assaults and one drug offence.

Next door at Norville State School there had been four unlawful entry offences, one theft and one property damage offence recorded.

In comparison, Bundaberg South State School recorded one unlawful entry and one assault.

Branyan Road State School had 13 property damage offences and three theft reported, the data shows.

Further west, in the past two years the grounds of Gin Gin State High School were the location of alleged drug offences and one assault.

Isis District State High School recorded higher numbers, with five drug offences, one assault and three property damage offences.

Data for Bundaberg State High School could not be narrowed down on the map.

Bundaberg police are appealing to members of the community who live near local schools to look out for any suspicious behaviour.
