Plans to build a new veterinary clinic at Bargara have been shot down by Bundaberg councillors as having been put forward prematurely.

A Bundaberg developer’s ‘premature’ plans for a new veterinarian clinic at Bargara were put to sleep at the region’s council meeting on Tuesday.

Developer Offida Holdings wanted to build the clinic at the corner of Hughes and Wearing roads.

The plan was to build the clinic in two stages.

Stage one would have included a building with four consultation rooms, pharmacy, and kennels.

The second stage would have added additional kennels, CT scanning facilities, private offices and a staff and conference room.

However, Bundaberg Regional Council staff recommended the proposal be refused on the grounds the plan was premature and damaged the council’s ability to transparently develop the Bargara urban growth area.

The staff report presented to councillors identified more than 50 clashes with Bundaberg’s planning scheme.

These included no structure plan created for the area, other land better suited for the development available in the region and no “overriding” benefit to Bargara in terms of crucial infrastructure.
