For most year 12 students, their final year of high school is a busy schedule of assessment, extracurriculars and preparing for their post-high-school journey.

But some shining seniors are taking on the extra task of being inspiring leaders for not only their cohort, but the entire school.

The NewsMail had a chance to hear what some of the region’s senior leaders hope 2022 will bring.

Christian College Senior Captain Kristen Apostol said she was eager to build relationships with her fellow classmates.

“We are excited to grow the BCC community and to inspire relationships between the cohorts,” she said.

Vice Captain Elizabeth Turner added said she wants to “inspire students to step out of their comfort zones” and “seize the day”.

At Shalom Catholic College, Captain Cristian Zandona said he was excited to represent his school in sport, attend the senior formal and graduate.

“I am looking forward to making the most I can of school and having a great time with my friends in my last year,” he said.

Fellow College Captain Jorja Logan said she wants to create a positive environment for her peers and make 2022 a memorable one.

“I am extremely excited to have a fun and enjoyable last year in high school,” she said.

“It is surreal to think that this journey will be over soon.”

School Captain from St Luke’s Anglican College Devon van Rooyen said he wanted to make a difference in his leadership role.

“I have three goals that I want to achieve which revolve around improving the respect, effort and participation of the student body at St Luke’s,” he said.

While School Captain Chika Hibbert added she has been inspired by the school leaders before her.

“It gives me pride because I have always admired the previous school captains and I am excited to continue their good work,” she said.

The school’s Sports Captain Kennedy Nguyen explained he wants he also wants to lead the way in sport.

“Sport has always been a passion of mine, so being able to inspire everyone to love what I love has always been a dream,” he said. * The NewsMail reached out to all high schools in the Bundaberg region but some declined to take part.
