If you’re chomping at the bit to frock up and have a bet, the Rum City Foods Show Holiday Races will hit the track on Thursday.

With five races set to jump from 1.52pm, the TAB meet will also be televised across the country on Sky Racing.

President of the Bundaberg Race Club Dale Rethamel said it will be the first time a TAB race meet is televised from Bundaberg on the show holiday and he was anticipating good audience numbers.

“We don’t get to pick when we have it, it’s programmed by Racing Queensland and this year’s just happened to fall on the show holiday,” he said.

“TAB meets tend to attract a larger audience of jockeys, trainers and horses with the prize money being slightly increased.”

Mr Rethamel said while prebookings hadn’t quite been the same as a normal Saturday race day, he was still expecting a decent crowd with solid bookings already in the bag and tickets still on sale at the gate.

“The people coming are very excited to be doing something a bit different on the afternoon of the show holiday,” he said.

“We’ve heard of people who are heading to the show in the morning and then coming to the races in the afternoon.”

Mr Rethamel said the race day was one of seven opportunities for the not-for-profit club to raise vital funds to support local racing.

“We’re a training track so we’re operational 365 days a year,” he said.

“We only get seven opportunities a year to raise crucial funds, being a not-for-profit club our income comes from people attending.

“It helps support not only the club, but local racing and the community.”

Gates for the race day open at 11am with the first race getting underway at 1.52pm.

You can get your tickets online or purchase a ticket at the gate.
