A driver from the Bundaberg suburb of Avenell Heights has died after receiving ‘significant’ head injuries in a single vehicle car accident.

An 85-year-old man from Avenell Heights has died after sustaining significant head injuries in a crash at Thabeban near Bundaberg on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the single-vehicle crash on Kay McDuff Drive at 4.16pm after a car crashed into the back of a parked truck.
A QAS spokeswoman saidon Saturday the man was rushed to Bundaberg Hospital in a critical condition after sustaining “significant head injuries”.
She said the man was the sole occupant of the car and was initially trapped before being freed by emergency crews.
The road was closed in both directions for some time.
A QPS spokesman told the NewsMail on Monday the 85-year-old man from Avenell Heights later passed away.
A report is being prepared for the coroner and the forensic crash unit is asking any witnesses to come forward.
