A truck is on its side and a cane train off the tracks after a crash near Bundaberg on Thursday morning.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said critical care paramedics were called to the scene on Darlingtons Rd and Three Chain Rd at Calavos about 9.02am.
The truck driver was taken to Bundaberg hospital in a stable condition while two occupants of the train were uninjured and declined transport.
Senior Constable Steve Moore said police were expecting the road to be closed for a few hours while they brought in cranes in to lift the train up.
“It appears that a cane train has struck a pantech truck here on the corner,” he said.
He said the train had been derailed, along with several cane bins.
Sen Const. Moore said while one of the power poles had been touched by one of the cane bins Ergon had declared it safe.
“At this time of year, yes it’s quite common for there to be traffic crashes at the level crossing,” he said.
“Every year it happens.”
Sen Const. Moore urged drivers to be mindful during the crushing season that cane trains were operating and some level crossings didn’t have flashing lights.
“This one is regulated by a give-way sign, so if you see a crossing, always make sure you look both ways,” he said.
“The train will be sounding its horn, so it’s always important to make sure that you are listening and don’t have headphones on and what-have-you when you’re driving along.”
