A woman’s lifelong passion has inspired her to open a new dog training business in Bundaberg.

SugarLand Animal Hospital vet technician Rachael Sinclair, 24, has recently branched out to open Whispering Wolf Dog Training.

“When I was a kid, we had a family dog with behavioural problems. At eight years old, I would take Molly, my chocolate labradoodle to training classes,” Rachael said.

“And after a while of going to the classes and practising at home, we formed a bond.

“I have been fascinated with dog behaviour ever since.”

As well as working as a vet tech, Rachael has been a dog trainer for the last two years, and has been a dog co-ordinator for Happy Tails Animal Rescue for the last three years.

“I have fostered over 100 dogs and loved learning about each of their personalities and what worked for them behaviourally,” she said.

Rachael also has two dogs of her own, Merlin, blind Great Dane cross who is four and half years old, and a purebred Great Dane, Freya, who is two.

“Merlin has really inspired me to consider alternative ways to train dogs, especially those with disability,” she said.

After just one week the business has received plenty of interest.

“It’s a small mobile business, so I’ll travel to either the client’s house, or a public location, and have the two hour session there,” she said.

“Travelling distance will be up to a 45 minute radius across the wider Bundaberg region for clients with further travel dependent on circumstances.”

The business is currently part-time while she works as a vet tech, but her goal is to devote herself to the business full time eventually.

Whispering Wolf Dog Training has a $300 initial consult package. On top of the initial consultation, the package includes:

  • A 2 hour training session
  • Vet technician health check
  • Unlimited access to communication about client’s dog
  • An email with a behavioural report
  • Personalised manual and booklet for client
  • Nutrition and medical assessment
  • and an all around behavioural consult

“90% of my role is to train the human,” Rachael said.

“From my perspective, dog training should be more focused on the nurturing the relationship between the client and their dog.”

“And to teach the client to better communicate with their dog and form a strong human – animal bond.”
