A new cookie and coffee business has opened its doors on See Street in Bargara, inspired by a love of baking which itself was inspired by the joy of pancakes at Christmas.
Twenty five-year-old Kelsey Archer whose passion for baking is evident in every detail of the business, shared the inspiration and journey behind Moosha.
The idea of turning her love for baking into a business stemmed from a desire to share something she genuinely loves with others. “Baking has always been a creative outlet for me, and cookies, in particular, felt like the perfect way to showcase that,” Ms Archer said.
“They’re simple yet full of endless possibilities – there’s so much room to experiment with flavours and textures, and I love the joy they bring to people.”
Recognising a gap in the market, she wanted to create a new space in the community.
“I also realised there wasn’t anything quite like it in Bargara, so I wanted to create a welcoming and inviting space where people could enjoy delicious cookies and coffee – a place that would make customers want to come back again and again.”
Starting a business was no small feat.
From sourcing ingredients and perfecting recipes to designing the brand, it was learning curve for Ms Archer.
“The process was both exciting and overwhelming.
“From sourcing the right ingredients and perfecting recipes to finding reliable suppliers and designing the brand, there were so many details to consider.
“One of the biggest challenges I didn’t anticipate was how much time and effort it takes to organise everything behind the scenes – permits, packaging, and finding the right space.”
Securing a location in Bargara proved to be particularly challenging, but perseverance paid off.
“When the opportunity finally came up, I jumped on it straight away.
“I’d been in contact with the real estate for quite some time, regularly asking if spaces were available.
“Despite the hurdles, every step taught me something valuable, and seeing it all come together made it so worth it.”
The name “Moosha” holds a personal meaning, inspired by the owner’s beloved dogs named Moose and Mocha.
“I wanted the business to feel personal and reflect my personality, so tying it to something I love felt perfect.”
Baking has always played a significant role in her life, dating back to her childhood on the Sunshine Coast.
“Baking played a big role in my childhood because it gave me the chance to experiment and make my own creations.
“It taught me patience, problem-solving, and the joy of turning simple ingredients into something special.”
Her love for baking was further ignited by a simple family tradition of making pancakes for Christmas.
“Seeing everyone enjoy something so simple but delicious has always brought me so much joy.
“That love for creating something people enjoy eventually led me to explore baking, where I found a deeper passion for turning simple ingredients into something special.”
“What started as a hobby slowly grew into something more as I began sharing my creations with friends and family.
“The positive feedback was so encouraging, and I started to wonder if this passion could become a career. It wasn’t a sudden decision – it evolved naturally as I kept challenging myself to try new recipes and perfect my skills.”
Looking back on her journey, she feels proud of how far she has come.
“I think young me would be both surprised and excited. I never expected baking to become such a significant part of my life, but I’m sure she’d be proud of how far I’ve come and eager to see what the future holds.”
Moosha is now open in Bargara.
