A Bundaberg salon with a loyal following and strong community roots has been voted Bundaberg’s Best Hair Stylist, taking out the top spot in a public vote run by the NewsMail.

The Place Hairdressing, owned by Kira-Lee Honor, received 10 per cent of the vote, beating out more than 60 other nominees to claim the win.

The Hair Lounge Gin Gin came in second with 8 per cent, and Signature Hair by Helen Rimmington followed close behind with 7 per cent.

A total of 145 votes were cast in the competition, which aimed to highlight and celebrate the region’s favourite stylists.

Mrs Honor said she was shocked and excited to learn her salon had won, especially as she hadn’t realised voting was underway.

“Amazing thank you I will pop below and thank you again we missed this voting so are very shocked and excited,” she said.

In response to the news, she said she was overwhelmed, in the best way.

“It was an incredible feeling to know that all the hard work, passion, and love we pour into The Place Hairdressing every single day has been recognised.

“I felt proud, emotional, and incredibly grateful to our amazing team that go over and above and grateful for the Bundaberg community.”

When asked what sets The Place apart, she said it’s about more than just hair.

“We’ve always focused on creating more than just great hair — we’ve built a boutique space where clients feel seen, heard, and completely at ease.

She said her team culture was strong, and that showed in how they worked together and treated their clients.

“Education is a big part of who we are — we’re always evolving, learning, and bringing the latest techniques to the salon.

“I think that commitment to quality, consistency, and care is what truly sets us apart.”

Mrs Honor has been in the hairdressing industry for more than two decades.

She said she couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

“I was drawn to hairdressing from a young age — it’s the perfect balance of creativity, connection, and making people feel good.

“Helping someone feel confident in themselves is such a powerful gift.”
