An Australian-first piece of infrastructure will create 170 jobs in Brisbane after the construction contract for Brisbane Metro Depot was awarded, with council unveiling new vision of the site today.
Building works for the “fully electric, state-of-the-art depot” are slated to start within months, with Council awarding the construction tender ADCO Constructions Pty Ltd.
Council today released a fly through video of the Rochedale site, which will house 60 fully electric Metro vehicles.
The video shows the route of the Metro line through the city and provides a new look at the final vision for the sprawling Rochedale site, which includes modern, glass-panelled admin buildings.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said some 170 jobs are expected to be created in Brisbane through the construction of the site – with “many more once it’s up and running”.
Brisbane-based supplier Volgren and electric-vehicle producer Hess will produce the 60 Metro vehicles after they were awarded the contract in late 2019 following a competitive tender.
Construction of the first vehicle is underway and early works have begun on the Metro Depot with major construction set to begin mid-2021.
