ANOTHER milestone for a $944 million public transport project has been ticked off with the approval of the tender to build the Brisbane Metro depot.
Brisbane City Council voted on Tuesday to open the tender for the design and construction of the Brisbane Metro depot in Rochedale.
METRO VEHICLES TO BE BUILT OVERSEAS
The tender will be released to market on March 27 with expressions of interests to close on April 17 and the successful tenderer to commence the contract by October 7.
The tender documents show the depot, fleet and systems have a pre-market estimated cost of $248,948,394 up from the business case estimate of $196,500,00.
The pre-market estimate for infrastructure is $540,555,334 and project management and delivery, including land, is estimated at $154,633,852.
Brisbane Metro will provide high frequency bus services on two metro lines, Metro 1 is from Eight Mile Plains to Roma St and Metro 2 is from Herston to St Lucia.
It involves procuring a purpose-built fleet of buses, major infrastructure upgrades, especially in the CBD and South Bank, and the new depot at Rochedale.
Public and Active Transport chairman Adrian Schrinner said the depot was “essential” to the project.
“You can’t have a Brisbane Metro without a depot that goes with it and we’re getting on with it,” he said.
The depot, at School Rd at Rochedale, will stable the initial fleet of Metro vehicles plus staff and maintenance equipment.
It will include an administration building, operator facilities, stabling yard, garage for maintenance and refuelling and recharging facilities.
Cr Schrinner said the council had already acquired four privately owned land parcels for the depot last year.
The state owned land required for the site is still being used to facilitate the upgrade of the Gateway to M1 merge.
“Once the State Government’s finished with that land we will acquire that off them for the purpose of building the depot,” he said.
