Brisbane Metro property resumptions at Rochedale

THE resumption of four private properties for the Brisbane Metro public transport project have been approved by the city council.

THE first property resumptions for the Brisbane Metro public transport project have been approved by Brisbane City Council.

Council will resume four properties on School Rd at Eight Mile Plains, totalling 48,870sq m, to build its Brisbane Metro depot, pending state government approval.

Brisbane City Council public and active transport chairman Adrian Schrinner said the four properties were the non-state-government properties required for the project.

The council also needs two parcels of state-owned land, in South Bank and Rochedale.

“Sadly, I can’t report there’s been any progress on the state land that we need, but I’m sure we’ll get there before not too long,” he said.

The Brisbane Metro is the city council’s most ambitious project.

Cr Schrinner announced five consortiums had bid for the $500 million major works package, which included building the new Cultural Centre station and converting Victoria Bridge into a green bridge.

The bidders are Brisbane Move Consortium, Lendlease consortium, MetroConnect consortium, METRO4BNE consortium and TransForm BNE consortium.

“There’s been a great level of interest not only building that infrastructure but a great level of interest, we’ve heard in the past, for providing the metro vehicles,” he said.

Cr Schrinner smugly noted this was in contrast to “certain light rail projects in the vicinity of Sydney that only have one bidder”.

Opposition public and active transport spokesman Jared Cassidy said council did not have the state government approvals or land required to move forward with the project.

“This is a recipe for delays and cost blowouts which is typical of this arrogant administration,” he said.
