COVID-19 Housing Market: Is now the right time to buy / sell a house?

GOLD Coast entertainment entrepreneur Billy Cross is poised to make a $6 million-plus ‘homecoming’ to his favourite suburb, Main Beach.

Billy and wife Jackie have signed up for the penthouse in White, a 32-floor tower to be built in Woodroffe Ave.

The new two-level Cross apartment, which also will be home for sons Nick,17, and Josh, 21, will be nearly 700sqm and include a rooftop area with pool and gymnasium.

Mr Cross, the founder of global juggernaut Manpower and a former nightclub owner, said he and his family had lived at Main Beach for a big part of their lives and always loved the suburb.

They spent seven years, up to 2009, in the penthouse of the Pintari tower.

He said that penthouse experience was “really amazing”.

“I feel Main Beach really is coming back, with more towers on the way.

“It’s got some great restaurants, bars and places to go, but it also has that beautiful village feeling too.

“I really can’t wait to get back to that lifestyle of just walking in the morning to grab a coffee, going to the bakery, and then enjoying dinner close by at night.”

The Cross family’s first taste of Main Beach living was a sub-penthouse in the Malibu building.

Their Pintari apartment was bought for $1.8 million in 2002 and sold for $1.5 million more seven years later.

The price being paid for the White penthouse has not been disclosed but is understood to be between $6 million and $7 million.

The WMK-designed White tower is a joint venture between White and Partners, associated with the family behind the Ray White real-estate group, and Toowoomba construction company owner Michael McNab.

It was initially unveiled in early 2019, marketing was halted while design changes were made, and it is in the process of being relaunched to prospective buyers by the Kollosche agency via a series of dinners in the private dining room at Nineteen at the Star.

The White tower will have 27 full-floor apartments, with the option of three or four bedrooms or going to two levels.

Kollosche’s Andrew Ramsey yesterday said White was intended to be the height of apartment luxury.

“Residents will have the exclusive use of a club-lounge level, 25-metre lap pool, entertainment deck, wellness rooms, and a gymnasium.”
