Bottleshop damaged by 4WD in attempted ram raid at Howard Springs Tavern

TWO people have been arrested after a well-known rural area pub was ram-raided in the early hours of this morning.

NT Police responded to calls that the Howard Springs Thirsty Camel bottle shop —which is attached to the Howard Springs Tavern — had been ram raided by a four-wheel-drive about 5.45am on Monday morning.

Police enquiries found the Volkswagen Amarok was stolen from a Bellamack residence following an unlawful entry at some stage overnight.

NT Police said several youths were seen running from the vehicle with one carrying a carton of alcohol with him.

Workers struggled to remove the car because it had become lodged in the bottle shop roller door.

A bollard stopped the vehicle from going any further.

The vehicle suffered minor damage to the front bumper.

About 12:30pm today, a 22-year-old female and a 24-year-old male were located and arrested in relation to the incident. Both have been conveyed to the Palmerston Watch House.

Charges are expected to be laid later today.
