Actor Lisa McCune is contemplating a major change, inspired by late Hollywood film director Alfred Hitchcock.
The four-time Gold Logie winner is set to star in the Australian stage production of The 39 Steps, a spy thriller that Hitchcock directed in 1935 based loosely on the John Buchan novel.
The popular Aussie is weighing up a Hitchcock Blonde hair transformation, which refers to the women the filmmaker cast in his movies, like Madeleine Carroll in The 39 Steps.
“The big thing for me is, do I cut my hair and dye it blonde and in my day-to-day life become the Hitchcock Blonde,” McCune told Confidential.
“I am not quite sure yet – it is a ‘watch this space’. I haven’t had a change for a while. I was thinking, ‘what the hell, maybe it is time’.
“We will wait and see if there’s any wigs but you want to make it easy for yourself because as the only girl in the show, do you want to be getting to the theatre an hour and a half early to set your hair or do I actually just shorten that window down a little bit because it is a thing.”
Other famous Hitchcock Blondes include Tippi Hedren, June Tripp, Janet Leigh, Grace Kelly, Kim Novak and Ingrid Bergman.
The 39 Steps will play at the Drama Theatre at the Sydney Opera House from August 8-30.
Alongside McCune is a small cast of Ian Stenlake and The Umbilical Brothers – David Collins and Shane Dundas. For McCune, that means “three roles” in one.
