How your daily cup of coffee can make lifesaving difference

The week-long campaign between Toowoomba Hospital and various Toowoomba cafes hopes to save lives. Here’s how:

Buying a cup of coffee is part of many daily routines but for this week only, your caffeine hit could save someone’s life.

Toowoomba Hospital’s Liz Hill has joined forces with cafes throughout the region in a bid to get loved ones to talk about organ donation.

“The cups are a conversation starter which I hope will lead to more people registering their interest to become donors,” Ms Hill said.

“Having a conversation about organ and tissue donation with your loved ones during your lifetime is important.

“Registering your decision can ensure your loved ones can honour your final wishes.”

The coffee cups have a QR code which once scanned, leads to the organ and tissue donor registry.

Participating cafes include Jamaica Blue at Grand Central and The Ridge Shopping Centre, Wendland Fine Foods and Wellbean Co at Toowoomba Hospital and Baillie Henderson Hospital.

With about 1800 Australians currently waiting for a lifesaving donation, the initiative aims to encourage Toowoomba residents to register as a donor.

DonateLife Week runs from July 25 to August 1.

The registration process takes less than a minute and Medicare card details are required.
