Bashing at Gold Coast train station

Shocking footage of a group of teenagers bashing another man at a Gold Coast train station has emerged online, leaving members of the public stunned.

The video, which was posted to social media community groups, shows of a group of teen boys following another man, who appears to be a teen, and repeatedly punching him.

The footage was taken at the Coomera train station.

Some of the teens are dressed in their school uniforms which appear to be from Upper Coomera State College and Foxwell State Secondary College.

A caption posted with the video on Wednesday afternoon read: “Just now at the Coomera train station this kid (name removed) is out gang bashing another poor victim who had no hope at all!

“Footage all over the internet already our kids are so scared to go to school because of these dangerous children!

“Someone needs to stop this child he may kill someone!

“If you are the parent to this kid do something about it and save someone from getting life threatening injuries from his disgusting behaviour!”

The footage left some on social media disgusted by the “hideous behaviour”.

“This poor young guy, I just can’t believe it! This is so feral and all the little cheap shots,” one person wrote

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to reports of a disturbance involving a group of people near Railway Road at Coomera around 3.20pm yesterday (Wednesday).

“Upon police arrival minutes later, there was no continued disturbance occurring. Officers conducted extensive patrols of the area.

“No formal complaints have been received in relation to the incident.

“Police are aware of the videos and are making further inquiries.”

The spokeswoman said four boys – aged 13, 14, 15 and 16 had been cautioned for affray in relation to the fight.

Theodore MP Mark Boothman said the behaviour was “completely unacceptable”.

“These students have completely ignored the One Punch Can Kill campaign and to make matters worse, stomping on another person is beyond cowardly and can cause serious injury,” he said.

“Enough is enough, in the midst of a youth crime crisis, society simply can’t tolerate this any longer.”

Queensland Rail Senior Manager Security and Emergency Preparedness Drew Brock said they called police immediately and CCTV footage had been provided to investigators.

“Queensland Rail’s first priority is the safety and security of our customers and employees,” he said.

“Queensland Rail works closely with QPS, including the 90 officer-strong QPS Railway Squad, to deter, detect, identify crime and anti-social behaviour on the network and support prosecution of offenders, where appropriate.

“In addition to the strong partnership with QPS, we have regular Authorised Officer operations and Gold Coast specific security patrols operating between Helensvale, Coomera and Nerang stations.”

A Department of Education spokeswoman said they were aware of the melee.

“Foxwell State Secondary College and Upper Coomera State College are reviewing the incident. At this stage it does not appear any Foxwell students were involved in the fight, but were seen nearby and recording the incident,” he said.

“Both schools are providing ongoing support to impacted students and their families.

“Queensland state schools are able to apply disciplinary consequences for behaviour occurring outside school grounds.

“Both schools will consider appropriate consequences in line with their Student Codes of Conduct.”

The spokeswoman said explicit reminders about save and respectful behaviours were frequently given to all students.

“The department works collaboratively with the Queensland Police Service through the School Based Police Officer program to contribute to a safe and supportive learning environment and to aid in crime prevention and proactive policing.

“Guidance Officer support is available for any student who requires it.”

The video comes the same week the Gold Coast Bulletin and newspapers across the state launched the “enough is enough” campaign to pressure the state government to act to stem the youth crime crisis.

Earlier this week, a 17-year-old girl was left bruised after a trio of teens attacked her at the Helensvale tram station.
