Zach Davis and Mitch Wright caught up with Today show hosts Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon on Thursday morning to chat about their legendary efforts.

It came after the Bulletin revealed how they had thwarted would-be thieves trying to steal thousands of dollars worth of scooters from a Broadbeach Waters home last Saturday.

Langdon asked the pair if their neighbour had thanked them for recovering their scooters, even though his garage door was damaged during the chaos.

“He looked after us. He threw a few slabs over the fence and rang us later in the night and said he booked us a booth at the nightclub,” Mr Davis responded.

“So we went out and drank there, a few of our mates and a few of his mates.

“Rinsed it there until it shut and came back here and kicked on.”

Stefanovic then jumped in with a playful question for his co-host.

“I just wanted to say to the lads, this is why Queensland is the place to be and especially if you’re a single lady and you’re looking for love,” he said.

“These two right there, prime candidates, I mean check them out.

“I don’t know which one you’d go for Ally, would you pick one?

His co-host responded: “You’re both catches, lads.”

Before the interview ended, Mr Davis and Mr Wright took off their shirts to reveal homemade shirts underneath emblazoned with the word “security”.

“We’ve taken a new career path,” Mr Wright declared.

“New security shirts, we’re going out on our own - new business venture.”

A young man who drew praise after defending his neighbour’s home from a scooter thief says young criminals need more than a “slap on the wrist”.

Zach Davis thwarted a would-be thief who was trying to steal thousands of dollars worth of scooters from a Broadbeach Waters home at noon Saturday.

Mr Davis was getting ready to play a footy match with mates when he saw a “dodgy-looking car” in his next door neighbour’s garage.

His neighbour then called him frantically explaining the car actually belonged to thieves breaking into his home.

He was stuck in traffic watching the crime under way on security camera livestream and asked Mr Davis if he could intervene.

“I ran straight over and pulled the garage door open and saw two fellas loading scooters into the back of the car,” the 22 year old said.

“I got the car door open and dragged one of the blokes out and then we traded a few punches.”

After dragging one of the men out of the car, Mr Davis and another man wrestled him to the ground and restrained him.

“Adrenaline kicked in straightaway,” Mr Davis said.

“I was laying over the top of this fella with another bloke on top of me.

“It probably took eight minutes for police to get there. I was pretty tired after.”

The would-be thief was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Bulletin readers described the 22-year-old as a “hero” and even encouraged him to consider a career in the police force.

“We’ve got a pretty good community - everyone knows each other on that stretch of the street,” Mr Davis said.

“If anyone else was put in my position, they would have done the same thing.”

Even though he’s not considering a career change, the Broadbeach Waters resident said crime was out of control on the Gold Coast.

“Everyday there is a new post on Facebook about cars getting stolen. A lot of them are young kids doing it,” he said.

“There does need to be something put in place so they don’t just get a slap on the wrist.”

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and no charges have been laid.

April 9: Neighbours thwart brazen scooter theft

A would-be thief has been caught red-handed while trying to steal thousands of dollars worth of scooters from a Broadbeach Waters home.

Home security footage shows a man breaking into the garage of a Rio Vista Boulevard residence about noon Saturday.

The vision shows a second man backing a car into the garage to make a getaway with the scooters.

But quick-thinking neighbours disturb the pair, causing the driver to flee the scene without the scooters.

After a scuffle, community members restrained the remaining would-be thief, who was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
