A 31-year-old motorcyclist from Pimpama has died following a horrific accident on the M1 that involved two other vehicles.
The man was killed after a crash between his bike and a Nissan Pulsar in southbound lanes near the Oxenford exit just before 11.30am on Friday.
Police say the motorcycle was then struck by a second car, a Mitsubishi Magna.
An off-duty doctor performed CPR on the motorcyclist at the scene before paramedics arrived.
He was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition, where he later passed away as a result of his injuries.
Police said the occupants of the two cars involved in the accident were not injured in the incident.
The accident resulted in southbound lanes of the M1 being closed, causing huge tailbacks.
Two lanes were opened about an hour later, but traffic stretched back to Yatala for most of the day.
Police said the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash and appealed for anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident, or the moments leading up to it, to come forward.
The fatal crash occurred a week after three people were killed in a horror crash at Bonogin.
In November another motorcyclist died after a horror crash in Broadbeach.
