GOLD Coasters craving some refined European culture can now get their fix close to home with the launch of the Glitter Strip’s newest “Mediterranean-inspired” waterfront venue.
La Luna restaurant – an offshoot of The Gennari Group’s upcoming beach club at Marina Mirage – swung open its doors on Wednesday.
But those keen to visit its luxe beach club will have to wait a little while longer.
Gennari Group general manager Steve De Maio told the Bulletin the atmosphere for both Main Beach venues were inspired by sun-drenched afternoons spent by the Santorini coastline.
“What we’ve done is let the seascape and the landscape of the marina really set the scene,” Mr De Maio explained.
“Our other venues are normally quite loud, colourful but we’ve really let the marina engage with us and used soft tones to really elevate the venue and bring that luxurious feel.”
He added: “The colour to our venue will be brought in by our customers as well as the food that we have on offer.”
Among the selections will be a fresh seafood platter, confit duck leg, plus a range of classic Mediterranean Asian fusion dishes by head chef Polo Franc.
“We haven’t reinvented the wheel as such but instead really elevated and refined the dishes,” Mr De Maio said.
It’s not the city’s first beach club but Mr Gennari said some key differences would ensure the venue was set apart from its competitors.
“If you compared us to other beach clubs around, and not disrespect to them, it’s just a different model. Our venue will be mature and have a really sophisticated style,” he said.
Progress for its day club offering was tracking well for a March launch, he added.
The Bulletin revealed the firm’s proposal in an exclusive report last November, touted as “Australia’s first floating luxury beach club.”
“It’s definitely time for Gold Coast to experience the ocean and the water in a more practical way, and that involves sitting on or by the water having some good wine and food.”
The 120-seat “Mediterraen-inspired” club will float between two docks at the prestigious marina, offering indoor and poolside dining, day beds, private cabanas, a runway and bar.
La Luna’s restaurant will open Wednesday to Sunday from midday until late for lunch and dinner services.
La Luna is one of 12 new venues and retailers to join the prestigious Main Beach precinct, including fine dining eatery Gods of the Sea.
