Gold Coast: Woman in critical condition after falling about 10m at Point Danger on Thursday

A woman has suffered critical injuries after plunging about 10m from a lookout at Point Danger, prompting a joint response from Queensland and NSW emergency services.

A WOMAN has suffered critical injuries after falling about 10 metres from a lookout at Point Danger on the Queensland-New South Wales border.

Both Queensland Ambulance Service and NSW Ambulance personnel were called to Boundary St at Tweed Heads after it was reported the woman aged in her 20s fell from the cliff about 11.50am.

Initially, a rescue helicopter was tasked to retrieve the woman, but the chopper was not needed and rescuers managed to get her to safety.

Both Queensland and NSW ambulance spokespeople confirmed the woman was in a critical condition.

She suffered head and chest injuries.

A witness, who asked not to be named, said he heard a rustle, which he thought was a bush turkey, while waiting at Duranbah Beach before finding the woman at the bottom of the cliff.

He said her leg was bent out of shape when he found her and he immediately called for an ambulance.

“I took her shoe off,” he said.

The woman was flown in a critical condition to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.
