Kevin McMahon found guilty of bestiality and trespass

A man who worked as a strapper for 20 years was found guilty of bestiality after being captured on midnight CCTV footage.

Kevin McMahon appeared before Geelong Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

A man has been found guilty of a sex act with a horse after he broke into a farm in the middle of the night.

Kevin McMahon was found guilty of bestiality and three counts of trespass in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

At midnight on November 17, 2022, a man with a long beard and baseball cap was caught on CCTV footage in a horse stable on a rural property, the court heard.

Kevin McMahon was been found guilty of bestiality and three counts of trespass.

The footage showed him leading the horse by a rope halter to an area of a stable where the act occurred.

He could be seen in a state of undress near the horse.

After the act, the man pocketed the rope halter and left the barn.

On January 4, the stable owner received an alarm on her phone alerting her to a man leaving the property about midnight.

Police attended the scene and arrested the man, who was revealed as McMahon.

When McMahon was searched, police found a rope halter in his pocket.

Magistrate Gerard Lethbridge said the man in the CCTV footage appeared “confident and competent dealing with horses”.

The court heard McMahon worked as a strapper, which is a person who looks after racehorses, for 20 years and was familiar with the stable the horse was in.

Prosecutors also presented evidence found at McMahon’s home to the court.

Horse DNA was found on clothing similar to that worn by the man in the CCTV footage.

Mr Lethbridge said it was a “fanciful” idea that any person other than McMahon was responsible for the acts and found him guilty of trespass and bestiality.

The hearing was adjourned to the Geelong Magistrates Court on June 24 for sentencing.
