A man has tragically died after falling from a tree in inner Brisbane on Tuesday morning.
The man was climbing a tree on Gould Rd, Herston, about 9.40am when the branch he was on snapped.
He fell between 3-5m to the ground, sustaining critical head injuries.
Bystanders quickly called ambulance paramedics and the man was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for treatment, however, he later died from his injuries.
The fall was not reported to be a workplace incident and was believed to have happened somewhere in Gould Park.
Police say there was no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
A local business owner said he heard “twigs breaking” followed by the sound of “moaning”.
He said when he looked over at the park he could see the man’s leg in the air and that it was obvious his injuries were non-survivable.
“His eyes were open and he was breathing but he was not responsive – he wasn’t in a state where I could talk to him,” he said.
“One of the young carpenters did CPR to try and keep him going until the ambulance got here.
“I don’t know what possessed him to climb a tree but it’s sad to think that if he had fallen a foot one way or the other, he probably would have broken something but survived,” he said.
The business owner said that it was “bad luck” the man had not landed on the grass or mulch, either side of the rocks.
“It’s sad to think that a family is now going to have a terrible Christmas,” he said.
