House, cars on fire near Mackay at Water Street and Baker Street, Nebo

Firefighters have worked to extinguish rapidly growing car fire that spread to a nearby home and a second vehicle near Mackay.

Firefighters have worked to extinguish a rapidly growing car fire that spread to a nearby home and a second vehicle near Mackay.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews were initially called to the fire at Water Street and Baker Street at Nebo about 8.05pm.

When crews arrived the house and two vehicles were up in flames.

About seven crews worked to ensure adjoining properties were not affected and managed to contain the fire to the one house by 10pm.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics were on scene to assist firefighters but as of 10.15pm no one had needed assistance.

While firefighters worked to put out the fire, the street was cordoned off for about two blocks.
