A man was described as being extremely fortunate to have escaped major injury or even a worse fate after a serious accident on the Bruce Highway between Townsville and Ingham.
Multiple emergency crews from both Ingham and Townsville responded to the accident at Coolbie north of Frosty Mango at Mutarnee just after 2:30pm on Wednesday.
A vehicle carrying a sole occupant appears to have left the highway, rolled and crashed through a crop of trees, coming to rest upside-down about 10 metres from the road.
The man was apparently able to free himself from the wreckage of the vehicle and was assessed by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics before he was loaded and transported to Townsville University Hospital in a stable condition.
An officer on scene said the man was “lucky”.
The Townsville to Ingham stretch of the Bruce Highway is a notorious black spot for traffic accidents.
