The condition of a Townsville man who suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle accident near the Hotel Brandon pub on the Bruce Highway has stabilised.
Townsville University Hospital and Health Service said on Wednesday morning that the male driver of one of the vehicles had improved to stable overnight.
The man was airlifted to Townsville University Hospital with what Queensland Ambulance Service said were serious injuries following the accident on Drysdale Rd, Brandon, just before 7pm on Tuesday.
Queensland Police Service said the man, 37, is from Alice River.
THHS were attempting to confirm the condition of the driver of the second vehicle, a 39-year-old woman from Home Hill.
QAS said on Tuesday night the woman, who was in shock, was briefly trapped in the wreckage of her vehicle before she was freed and taken to Ayr Hospital in a stable condition.
QPS said on Tuesday that initial reports indicated that one of the vehicles had allegedly swerved on to the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with another vehicle.
A QPS spokeswoman confirmed on Wednesday that the cause of the accident was still under investigation.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said crews worked to free a person from one of the vehicles.
“One person was encapsulated and our crew used hydraulic equipment to free them,” the spokesman said.
QAS said there were two people assessed at the scene.
“There was a female that was encapsulated and she was in shock,” the spokeswoman said.
“There was a male transported with spinal precautions.”
She said the man’s condition deteriorated en route to Ayr Hospital and he was airlifted to TUG.
“The patient’s condition deteriorated on the way to hospital and he has now been airlifted to Townsville Hospital in a serious condition.”
